NEOSHO, MO.--- "In the area there's not a lot of pre-school available," said Alan Cook, Neosho Christian School Chairman.
That's why Neosho Christian School is adding on a new building.
"We're building a pre-k, be a new program for us this fall. Anticipating 10 to 15 children 4 to 5 years old. They have to be 4 by the 1st of August to enroll," said Lowell McInturff, Neosho Christian School Superintendent.
This means the school will now teach pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. School staff say this new building is needed in Neosho.
"The community has had a couple of pre-k's close and we anticipate there will certainly be a need, and also we're hoping that it will be a feeder program to a have students go ahead and enroll next year as kindergartners who come through our school," said McInturff.
The new building will be around 1,200 square feet and hold 10 to 15 kids.
"We'll have one teacher and possibly one aid. And have a classroom and restrooms, and kind of a little common area," said Cook.
It just took one donation to break ground for the building.
"Private contribution that started the program and it was considerable and from that we've had other people donate, but it's going to be basically all from contributions to the Christian school," said McInturff.
Even with the donations, they're still in need of volunteers.
"We're going to have to probably do the sheet rock ourselves, do the mud work on the sheet rock. On the inside there will be painting and finishing sheet rock. So anyone who has that talent that would like to help, we would certainly be glad to hear from you," said McInturff.
The pre-k program will start in August and the building is expected to be complete by October. For more information, call 417-451-1941.
