More Men Opting for Botox

Father's Day is just around the corner and studies show some dads may want a less typical gift.
JOPLIN, MO.--- More and more men are visiting the dermatologist's office for something known as "Brotox." It means Botox for men. Dermatologists say women aren't the only ones who are wanting to maintain a youthful look.

"It's actually a lot more popular than most people would think. Probably 10% to 15% of most practices that do Botox will have guy clients," said Lindsey Teel, Family Nurse Practitioner Skinnovations.

Men in their 30's to 40's are most likely to indulge in the anti-aging fad, but aren't as open to talking about it publicly as women. Common wrinkle areas men want to get rid of are on their forehead, known as "angry lines."

"Guys are a little more direct than women. Women come in and say 'we look tired, we'd like to not get tired' or 'I look old, I look like my mom.' Guys come in and they say you know, 'I look stern' and 'I've got a line here," said Teel.

Brotox has also become popular among some of Hollywood's leading men.

"Some celebrities, some people already know, Simon Cowell. He has admitted he has had Botox. I think Gordon Ramsey has as well. Patrick Dempsey, Dr. Dreamy, I think has Botox also," she said.

Although some people think Botox creates a stiff look right away, dermatologists say the procedure is subtle and can last up to five months.

"It's one of those things. Once you see how well it works, you'll want to keep doing it," she said.

Botox often costs between $200 to $300 depending on a person's muscle development. The treatment can also help with headaches.
