JOPLIN, MO.--- MoDOT is suspending highway construction and maintenance work to accommodate the increase in traffic this 4th of July weekend. All contract crews will be off the roads starting Thursday at noon. The resident engineer says the only time you may see crews is if there's an accident or an emergency.
"The main reason is we don't want to impact travelers. Usually, prior to a holiday and after a holiday the traffic is the worst," said Jim Conley, MoDOT Engineer.
Some lane and road closures will still remain in place. Crews will resume work Monday morning.
