Mercy Hospital Joplin New Helicopter

The aircraft can carry up to two patients at a time.
JOPLIN, MO.--- A new helicopter is hovering over the Four State area. Mercy Hospital Joplin is now equipped with a 2008 EC 135 P2 Plus Helicopter. The aircraft can carry up to two patients at a time. It also has state-of-the-art equipment on it including a GPS satellite tracking system, an on-board weather radar, and cockpit voice and video recordings. It is also the only helicopter in the region that is IFR certified, which means it's able to fly through clouds.

"We wanted to provide Mercy Joplin and surrounding areas with the  latest in state of the art helicopter and equipment provided," said Bryan Taylor, Mercy Life Line Flight Nurse.

Mercy officials say the helicopter blessed back in November was just a temporary one and the new addition is now permanent. The new aircraft was blessed last Monday and has transported around five patients since it's arrival in Joplin a little more than a week ago.
