Looking After Pets During Fireworks

Workers at the Joplin Animal Adoption and Resource Center suggest bringing your animals indoors if they are scared of fireworks.
JOPLIN, MO.--- With the loud fireworks going off at night, it's important to protect your scared pets. Workers at the Joplin Animal Adoption and Resource Center say it's a good idea to bring your animals inside if they're scared of fireworks.

The shelter often sees animals that have run away from home to get away from the loud noise. Many animals also get hurt while running away.

"There have been plenty of stories of dogs that injure themselves going through fences, getting caught or things because all they want to do is get away and, unfortunately, they don't take into consideration where they're going to go," said Lysa Boston, Shelter Manager.

If you're pet is scared, it usually calms them down if you stay with them until the fireworks end.
