WEBB CITY, MO--- Missouri state representatives adressed community issues at the Elk's Lodge in Webb City. Elk's Lodge #861 hosted a town hall meeting. A number of issues were discussed between community members and elected officials, one of them being the cost of energy.
According to Representative Charlie Davis, the state does not have the technology needed to meet new EPA standards. Davis says it would be a better idea to find a way to burn coal more efficiently so the area could produce energy locally.
"It's very important to understand that when the EPA comes down and tells us that we have to have certain emission standards on our coal power plants-- and I'm not against standards. I'm all for clean air, but when you look at the new standard we don't have the technology to meet that standard," according to Representative Charlie Davis of the 162nd district in Missouri.
Representative Davis says focusing on ways to burn coal more efficiently would lower energy costs.
