Lawrence County Check Cashing Scam

The sheriff says people are receiving calls or letters asking to cash checks in the amount of five hundred to ten thousand dollars.
LAWRENCE COUNTY, MO--- The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office and the local attorney's office have received several calls about the scam. The sheriff says people will either get a phone call or letter asking them to cash a check in the amount of $500 to $10,000. Victims are told they need to cash the check because the person running the scam cannot do it themselves.

The scammer also says the person can keep half of the money. Once the check is cashed, the scammer has all the victims personal information. The sheriff and prosecuting attorney are warning people not to fall victims to this popular scam.
