FORT SCOTT, KS.--- The Kansas Department of Transportation held an open house regarding the expansion of Highway 69. The expansion project includes 11 miles of Highway 69 from Fort Scott to Arma. KDOT officials want to increase this part of the highway from two lanes to four lanes. Engineers, along with KDOT, are currently in the design phase. They are working to secure an initial construction plan regarding the location of existing and proposed access points.
"There's many, a dozen property owners that live up and down the corridor. We have to deal with each one and acquire the specific limits that we need for the improvement from each property owner along the corridor," said James Dietzel, KDOT Road Design Leader.
Community members were able to ask questions and view the latest maps that show the details of the construction project. Construction is expected to begin in 2017.
