JOPLIN, MO.--- The Missouri Department of Transporation reports that 72 people died from motorcycle deaths in 2013. 15 of those deaths happened in June statewide. The next deadliest month was August when 11 motorcyclists died. MoDOT expects that it's due to more people being on the road as the weather improves.
"Drive for the conditions. Be aware of your surroundings and look to make sure before you change lanes or merge into traffic that it's safe to do it, so that everybody gets safely where they are trying to go," said David Mitchell, Customer Relations Specialist.
14 motorcyclists died in the Southwest Missouri area last year. Two of those deaths happened in June.
