JOPLIN, MO.--- The Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Task Force and the support of MADD held a DWI checkpoint on 7th and Illinois on Saturday night. Law enforcement agents check more than 1,200 drivers. They handed out 9 DWI's, 37 total tickets and 60 warnings. Officers arrested a total of 15 people, including some for drugs. Sergeant Rusty Rives says 9 DWI's are fairly high for these checkpoints. He also says they hold 17 checkpoints per year, all over Southwest Missouri.
