Joplin's Relay for Life

Hundreds stomp out cancer by walking all night long.

JOPLIN, MO--- Hundreds are stomping out cancer by participating in Joplin's Relay for Life event at Missouri Southern's stadium. Cancer survivors and their friends and family are participating in the overnight relay walk to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. Members of each of the teams take turns walking around the track, while also taking part in food and entertainment. Breast cancer survivor, Brenda Capps, says this is her 14th year walking and it feels great.

"As a cancer survivor, to see the people getting out here doing this for everybody it means the world to me because I know they care for people that have cancer," exclaims breast cancer survivor, Brenda Capps.

The fundraiser, which started at 6 pm, will last until 6 am Sunday morning. Relay For Life events around the world have raised a total of nearly five billion dollars to fight cancer.
