Joplin School Board Approves 2014-2015 School Year Calendar

Ten student days were cut from the school year, however ten minutes will be added to the end of each school day to make up the required number of days and hours.
JOPLIN, MO.--- It was a full agenda at tonight's Joplin School Board meeting. The board approved the 2014-2015 school year calendar. 10 student days were cut from the school year. However, 10 minutes will be added to the end of each school day to make up the required number of days and hours. More days will be devoted to teacher in service days and allow the district more time to move into the new high school. The 2014-2015 school year will start on August 25th.

Also at tonight's meeting, Debbie Fort and Lynda Banwart were sworn in as the newest members on the Joplin R-8 School Board. Banwart says she is ready to get started and get involved in education.

"Being able to work with the current school board, being able to work with educators, administration, parents, students. Anyone that the educational process impacts," said Lynda Banwart, New School Board Member.

Board members elected Anne Sharp as the new school board president. Mike Landis will serve as the new school board vice president.
