JOPLIN, MO.--- Theft cases traditionally go up in the summer months. In Joplin last month, 42% of thefts from vehicles happened in unlocked cars. Two out of three cases took place in a parking lot or on the street. So officers say it's a good idea to take a few extra seconds to potentially prevent becoming a victim.
"So again, we want to remind people to lock your vehicle. And not only locking your vehicle, but be sure to hide your valuables as well," said Lt. Matt Stewart, Joplin Police Department.
There were 62 reports of thefts from vehicles in Joplin last month, with purses, wallets and electronics the top items targeted by thieves.
