JOPLIN, MO.--- The $2 million facility opened yesterday to all congregants. The celebration ran in correlation with the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Some construction is still underway, both inside and outside. The facility will be open to men five times a day so they can pray. Women and children will go to the building for special occasions.
The original mosque burnt to the ground in the early morning hours of August 6, 2012. Authorities later determined the building was deliberately set on fire. No one has ever been arrested in this case. The Muslim community used a temporary space in a strip mall while their new facility was being built.
