JOPLIN, MO.---- The Independent Living Center in Joplin has started a garden. Workers take food to their clients and now have added fresh produce to the mix. Several tomato, pepper and squash plants are now ready to be picked and sent home. Many people who are homebound have fond memories of having their own gardens, so it's nice to have fresh vegetables brought to them.
"It shows our consumers that we support them, we support what they're going through. We know that eating healthy isn't cheap, that's for sure. We just want them to know that we understand them, we're here for them and we want to provide them with all the best foods," said Ali O'Dell, Independent Living Center.
After the success of this years garden, they plan to expand it next year.
