JOPLIN, MO.--- A benefit lunch was held today to raise money for a Joplin baby. At 11 months, Cade Cranford was diagnosed with tumors in both eyes. Today, the Joplin Fire Department served burgers, brats, chips, and a drink for $5 a plate. The proceeds from the lunch will help the Cranford's pay for travel and medical expenses. Joplin Fire Chief Mitch Randles says the turn out was great.
"Oh! Very surprising! You know, we figured we would have quite a few folks come. We've already had 500 carry out orders and we are just now getting started. We are starting to get people to flow through. I just can't tell you how thrilled I am about the turn out," said Mitch Randles, Joplin Fire Chief.
Today's event raised $21,000. The family has to go to New York for the special treatment. More than 2,000 people attended the lunch benefit.
