JOPLIN, MO.--- Dozens of volunteers are helping dip a sweet treat for a good cause. The Joplin Family Y is selling chocolate covered strawberries to raise money for low income households who can't afford the facilities services. Volunteers arrived at 5 a.m. and dipped strawberries for more than 12 hours. Last year, the group was able to raise $10,000 and that helps pay for youth sports programs, and swimming lessons. Organizers have been doing it for years because it's a good cause.
"You are supporting the entire community. You're giving back to kids, people in our community who really need the services that the Y offers. We're so much more than a gym," said Kim Gray, Joplin Family Y.
The strawberries are selling for $15 dollars a box. You can pick them up on Friday at both Y locations in Joplin.
