JOPLIN, MO.--- Local police will hold a DWI checkpoint this weekend in hopes of keeping travelers safe. According to a AAA study, Independence Day can be one of the worst days of the year for deadly drunk driving accidents. So Joplin police will keep an eye out for those driving under the influence during the holiday weekend. Officers add, driving under the influence plays a role in nearly 30% of Missouri traffic deaths, which totaled more than 200 last year.
