General Mills Foundation Donates to a Baxter Springs Elementary Program

The money will be used for materials and training to continue implementing and expanding the program across all grade levels.

BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- The General Mills Foundation donates thousands of dollars to a Baxter Springs elementary program. Representatives presented a $5,000 grant to Central Elementary students for their "Bal-A-Vis-X" program. The program is a series of 300 exercises, most of which are done with sand-filled bags or racquetballs, while standing on a balance board. MIT teaches students self-challenge and cooperation while strengthening balance, auditory, and visual skills.

"It doesn't matter the curriculum area or what the concept is being learned, their attention goes from scattered and unfocused to very focused and able to understand what they're learning, and apply it to new situations," said Ashley Bingham, 4th Grade Teacher.

The money will be used for materials and training to continue implementing and expanding the program across all grade levels.
