JOPLIN, MO.--- Local students are facing off in a reality TV style cooking contest. The culinary arts program at Franklin Technology Center is hosting a master chef cookoff. Students are divided into small teams then get one hour to cook an entree, side dish and dessert. The theme is the flavors of the 50 states, so each dish must represent the state chosen by the team.
"We had Indian tacos. We had a baked beans with sausage. Yesterday, we had quite a few gumbos and a jambalaya," said Jennifer Barksdale, Franklin Technology Center.
The competition wraps up tomorrow, with the winners of the preliminary rounds going head to head. The top team this morning won their bracket with a Georgia based menu of seafood soup, waffles with a peach reduction and fried chicken.
