JOPLIN, MO.--- Empire District Electric company has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission for a 5.5% increase. This should generate about $24.3 million, costing the average customer nearly $10 more each month. Empire officials say the main factor for the increase is the cost to install an air quality control system at the asbury power plant.
