JOPLIN, MO.--- Dozens of officers and deputies met today as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign." In Jasper County alone, more than 1,100 drivers were arrested for a D.W.I. in the last 12 months. Joplin Police Sergeant Rusty Rives says the ultimate goal is to prevent future cases through education.
"It shows everyone we're on the same page. I mean, the focus is Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, and that is truly the mission. If they are driving intoxicated in one way shape or form, we're going to take them to jail. We really want to remove them from the roadway system because they are posing a danger," said Sgt. Rusty Rives, Joplin Police Department.
Area officers will conduct stepped up drunk driving enforcement efforts through Labor Day.
