JOPLIN, MO.--- Missouri Southern State University has set a deadline to pick its next president of the university. MSSU is still reviewing 38 applications for the open president job. The search committee will determine a unspecified number of semifinalists at their meeting on April 28th. The school is planning to select a candidate for the job by June. Doctor Alan Marble is serving as the school's interim president.
Also at Missouri Southern, Doctor Alan Marble made his spring address to university faculty and staff today. He says Missouri Southern is waiting for a decision at the state level for how much school funding they will get. He also talked about a proposed bonding bill that would allow the university to repair maintenance issues, like leaky roofs and update fire alarms. Marble says this was a good year for the school and wants to see what happens next.
"This university is just sitting on the edge of a rocket, it's getting ready to explode in a great way. People doing great things, and we just need to figure out exactly the direction we're headed in the future and found out a way to finance it all. So, it's very positive," said Dr. Alan Marble, MSSU Interim President.
Marble says there will be a groundbreaking for new residence halls at Missouri Southern on April 28th.
