Crawford County Standoff

David Doughty, 32, had fired either a handgun or rifle several times from a room on the second floor of a home.
CRAWFORD COUNTY, KS. --- At 10:15pm Tuesday, Crawford County Sheriff's Deputies responded to shot fired at 1180 S. 220 Street. Heidi Thomas, 57, of the residence and Jamie Doughty, 31, of St. Louis reported that David Doughty, 32, had fired either a handgun or rifle several times from a room on the second floor of the house while they were downstairs.

Thomas and Jamie Doughty fled to a neighboring home to call for help. Crawford County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team was activated. Neighboring homes were notified and evacuated prior to any encounter with David Doughty. After several attempts to communicate with the shooter, the special response team forced their way into the house. They found Doughty dead from what appears to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.

He recently went through extensive medical procedures but it's unclear if that had anything to do with the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
