Craig Wood Makes First Court Appearance

A man charged with the murder and kidnapping of Hailey Owens makes his first appearance via web cam at the Greene County Courthouse.
SPRINGFIELD, MO.--- A man charged with the murder and kidnapping of Hailey Owens, 10, makes his first appearance in court. Craig Wood, 45, of Ash Grove made an appearance via web cam at the Greene County Courthouse today. Wood is charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action and child kidnapping. Family members of Hailey Owens were present and sat on the first row.
  
Wood will be back in court on March 19th and then a preliminary hearing was set for April 7th. Court documents show Wood grabbed Owens as she was walking down Lombard Street Tuesday afternoon. Eye witnesses gave authorities a description of Wood and his vehicle, which helped lead them to a home at 1538 East Stanford.

When investigators searched the home, they found Owens' body concealed inside two trash bags stuffed in a small tote. According to an investigator with the medical examiner's office, Owens suffered a small gunshot wound at the base of her skull and also had apparent ligature marks on her arms.
