JOPLIN, MO--- The Missouri Humane Society is urging all pet owners to bring their pets inside and be careful when exposing them to cold. A general rule: if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your pets, according to the Humane Society. Don't leave your pet outside for long periods of time. The Missouri Humane Society also suggests to be mindful of frostbite on ears, tail, and feet. Beware of antifreeze and rock salt, which is poisonous to dogs if they eat it and the chemicals could harm their paws. And wait several hours to take your dog outside if you have just washed them. To report an animal in distress, please call the Humane Society of Missouri at 314-647-4400.
