City of Parsons Receives Sewer Grant

The City of Parsons is awarded a $500,000 grant for much needed sewer upgrades.

PARSONS, KS-- The City of Parsons is awarded a $500,000 grant for much needed sewer upgrades. The grant will help line sewers and manholes throughout specific sections of the city. This million-dollar project with help the city with inflow and infiltration issues. The ultimate goal is to prevent rain water from seeping into the waste water treatment facility. According to Kari West, much of the work will happen underground. However, it's all necessary that the city strives to meet EPA compliance.

"We are currently under an EPA compliance order and this is all part of the work that we're working towards reducing our inflow and inflitration in our sanitary sewer system. So this grant is going to be a big boost," says West.

There will be a total of 6.3 miles of lining added to the sewer. The city will match the grant with 1.25 million dollars of low-interest loans from the state. The project should be completed by summer of 2015.
