CARTHAGE, MO.--- A local man is working to bring a bike rally to Carthage in June. Thunder, it's Chris Howell's nickname and the namesake behind his vision for a bike rally.
"This is my hometown so I wanted to do something amazing here," said Chris Howell, Founder of the Rally.
It may be empty now, but Howell envisions Kellogg Lake packed with bikers and bands this June 13th through the 15th.
"We have the Maple Leaf in the fall, so hopefully we can do something in the spring, early summer. So you have something big in the beginning and big in the end," said Howell.
Wendi Douglas with the Carthage Convention and Visitors Bureau says the event would be a great addition to Carthage's activities.
"I think it's a great event for Carthage. There aren't any similar events here locally, so it'll be exciting to bring a bunch of bikers to Carthage," said Wendi Douglas, Carthage CVB.
Howell says he's always had a fascination with bikes.
"The Harlies, the bikes, the brotherhood with being a biker," said Howell.
For him, part of that brotherhood means giving back to the local agencies. Money raised will go toward combat veterans and helping the Carthage police officers buy gifts for children at Christmas.
"The other goal behind this is to have a charitable bike ride," said Howell.
He's hoping for a big turnout for a good cause in his own backyard.
"Hopefully, it grows next year and gets even bigger," said Howell.
Howell plans to meet with a Carthage committee on March 3rd to move forward with plans. For more information on the event and activities, click here.
