CARTHAGE, MO.--- Athletes aren't the only ones on trading cards these days. The Carthage Police Department now has trading cards of their officers. Leggett and Platt paid for the costs of printing up 7,000 cards for the department. Children are encouraged to collect a card from each of the 35 officers. They feel it starts a positive relationship with the kids, instead of a negative one.
"This lets kids realize that police officers have names. They can come away knowing that I know this officer, he's my friend. I know his name and I know a little bit about him because the back of the card even has some information about him," said Sgt. Doug Dickey, Carthage Police Department.
Children can pick up the cards at the police department or anytime they see an officer in their community. Each officer has at least 200 cards to give out.
