CARTHAGE, MO.--- In 2011, Charles and Heidi Tandy purchased their home with a Rural Development Direct Home Loan. In 2013, they became the first family in Missouri to receive rural development funding to purchase and install a storm shelter. The family says this provides not only safety, but peace of mind.
"I love it. It's like a sense of relief. When I'm at work, I have a place to go. So when I'm at work if the storms come, I don't have to worry about my husband and son having to go anywhere," said Heidi Tandy, Carthage Resident.
The family has a bench, food, and water inside the shelter in case it's needed. You can find out if you qualify for financing to have a storm shelter at your home by clicking here.
