CARTHAGE, MO.--- Construction on the Early Childhood Center in Carthage is ahead of schedule. Crews from R.E. Smith are putting up the walls on the building off of Fairview Avenue. They'll put on the roof in a couple of weeks. The assistant superintendent for business says they are about two weeks ahead of schedule and on track to finish in February. That's when the district will begin moving into the building.
"In February, we'll move our Early Childhood students in it, so we can get them out of the church we are now renting. Then for the next school year, we'll have all the kids there including the Title 1 preschool kids," said Dr. Mark Baker, Assistant Superintendent for Business.
The Carthage School District has raised around $780,000 in donations for the project, it is fully funded by donations and federal money.
