PITTSBURG, KS.--- Construction on a busy intersection in Pittsburg is slated to begin in late spring. City of Public Works Director Bill Beasley says work on Centennial and Broadway is in the contract stage right now. The city commissioners meeting will make a ruling tonight on whether to accept a bid of around $1 million for the project. Beasley says the project will include new traffic signals and a left turn lane off of south Broadway onto Centennial. He says there will be a deceleration lane entering Meadowbrook Mall to avoid slowing down traffic on Centennial.
Pittsburg city commissioners will decide tonight whether to assist Jim's Steakhouse, which could lose part of their parking lot during construction at 20th and Broadway. City of Public Works Director Bill Beasley says the city is looking to add $60,000 to the project to assist the restaurant with a new parking lot. He says the money would come from the revolving loan fund, which is money from sales tax. The construction on 20th Street and Broadway will begin in early to mid summer of this year and will cost around $2.1 million.
