JOPLIN, MO.--- Saniya Ablatt and Michael Swanson are both seniors at the new Joplin High School. They say the new building is amazing and they've been looking forward to it literally since they were freshmen.
"You know since my freshman year, the Eagles have been flying, we've had a few pit stops along the way. But it's finally amazing to say that the eagles have landed and we are back in our nest," said Saniya Ablatt, JHS senior.
Michael Swanson says being in the new building is kind of being in a new car.
"It is and still has the new smell," said Michael Swanson, JHS senior.
Saniya says it will be nice to finally call this place home.
"Since my Freshman year, we've never really had a permanent building that we've been able to call home. And so my Freshman year I was in a temporary building and then my junior year I went to another temporary building, and so it's so nice to be able to say that I can finally call this my permanent home," said Ablatt.
Swanson says over the last three years, he's been driving past the new school to see the progress.
"I've been taken a few routes over the last, I don't know, over the last couple years just trying to get a few extra views of the high school to see what the building is going to look like. It's really excited to be in here," said Swanson.
Usually when you're a senior, you're wanting to get out of school as soon as you can. Well, with the Joplin senior class, they're the exact opposite.
"The number one thing us seniors were looking forward to this year was getting into the building. And to be able to say we completed our senior year in this awesome new building. And so I don't' really want to get out, I want to stay in as long as I can," said Ablatt.
"I'm excited to be able to be the first class graduating from here, it'll definitely be something neat to tell my kids later on someday," said Swanson.
