JOPLIN, MO.--- Many Catholics are celebrating Ash Wednesday by giving up something they enjoy. Several students at St. Mary's Elementary School in Joplin are giving up things they love. Some are giving up video games, others are giving up junk food. They say many of the things they're giving up are bad for them, so it will be good in the long run. Also, some are adding things to their daily routine like more prayer and exercise. One girl we talked to is giving up television, which isn't so good for us.
"I don't think it would be that hard because my mom makes me do my homework before I watch it. So it's not that hard," said Hailey Hilsabeck, Giving Up TV.
The kids can return to their favorite things on Easter.
