Brad's Beat: PSU Russ Hall Fire Anniversary

A ceremony was held this morning to mark a hundred year anniversary of one of the largest fires in Pittsburg history.
PITTSBURG, KS.--- Pittsburg State's Russ Hall was hit with a lightening strike in the early morning hours of June 30th, 1914. The fire quickly engulfed the whole building. A ceremony was held this morning at PSU to honor the 100 year anniversary. Russ Hall was one of two buildings on campus at the time and the community came together to make classrooms so the students wouldn't miss a day.

"They put them in tents on the lawn, they took them to buildings downtown, they put them in Whiteson Hall. They put them everywhere so classes could continue," said Randy Roberts, PSU Archivist.

Russ Hall was only six years old when the blaze took place. There was one fatality during the fire.
