JOPLIN, MO.--- Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech has inspired many people around the world, including those in Joplin. Joplin Mayor Melodee Colbet-Kean says 50 years ago, it would of not been possible for her to be mayor or open her own restaurant. She says so many doors have been open thanks to the Civil Rights Movement. She recently opened her own restaurant called "Me's Place." Mayor Colbert-Kean says owning your own restaurant was a significant dream that became possible with hard work.
"It came from a dream. It took three or four years to come to fruition. Don't let up on your dreams," said Melodee Colbert-Kean, Joplin Mayor and Business Owner.
This is the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech, which he delivered in August of 1963.
