PITTSBURG, KS.--- More than a thousand third graders invade the Carnie Smith Stadium in Pittsburg. Pittsburg State University hosted the annual Kansas Kids Fitness Day. All the students are in the third grade from schools in Crawford and Cherokee counties. The students learned karate, participated in races and also played with rainbow parachutes. The goal is to encourage kids to be healthy by going outside and participating in physical activities. The students say it's great to get out of class.
"You don't have to do work and that's pretty cool. Instead of reading and math, you can come out here and play all day," said Kaia Roberts, Third Grade Student.
Dozens of PSU physical education majors helped conduct the different workout stations.
