Brad's Beat: Baxter Springs 150th Civil War Anniversary Celebration

The event will be continuing all weekend at the Baxter Springs Museum and it's free to the public.
BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- This weekend a Southeast Kansas town will be taking a trip back in time, 150 years to be exact. Baxter Springs is celebrating the sesquicentennial, which is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Several different events were setup at the Baxter Springs Museum. Civil War reenactors had a replica of a cannon used during the war. Also, they showed students what type of medical procedures were performed out on the field of battle.

Bennie Hamilton has been a Civil War reenactor for more than 20 years and he says the sound of a cannon is music to his ears. "From my point of view on the gun, it's a beautiful sound. I'm deaf as a hammer. Literally, my ears are ringing 24/ 7."

The event will be continuing all weekend at the Baxter Springs Museum and it's free to the public.
