JOPLIN, MO.--- Some area students are volunteering their time at a local center that houses families with sick children. This week is Volunteer Week, and more than two dozen students from South Middle School visited the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin. The students made pillow pets that will be given to newborns who are staying at area hospitals. The students also spent several hours cleaning the home. Many of the students say this homework assignment was worth the hard work because it gives back to the community.
"This assignment has a reward. We got to make someone's day better. Just the fact that it's possible is worth it," said Becca Brown, 8th Grade Student.
This is the third year that students have given back to the Ronald McDonald House.
