JOPLIN, MO.--- Academy Sports in Joplin hosted its annual Back to School donation event. 31 students from the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Missouri had a chance to pick out $100 in merchandise. Students picked out clothes, shoes and backpacks. Organizers say times are tough and parents often don't have enough money to buy all the supplies kids need for school.
"It's expensive to raise children these days, and they have to worry about other things besides putting clothes on their kids back. So if we can lighten that burden for our parents, then we're more than happy to do it. And we're so grateful that Academy jumped on board," said Mackenzie Garst, Boys and Girls Club.
Academy donated more than $3,000 in supplies to the kids.
