Bourbon County Sheriff's Office Public Meeting

The meeting will discuss the need for a new jail and how it will be funded.
FORT SCOTT, KS.--- The Bourbon County Sheriff's Office is having another public meeting about a new jail. Bourbon County Sheriff Bill Martin says the meeting will be March 6th at 7 p.m. at Fort Scott Community College. The meeting will discuss the need for a new jail and how it will be funded. Martin says the current jail is outdated and has an overcrowding problem. It has cost the county more than $100,000 to house inmates in other jurisdictions. The estimated cost for a new jail is around $6.3 million, but it's unclear how the facility would be funded.
