Baxter Springs Council Member Arrested for Allegations of Child Abuse

Stan Pickering is being held on allegations of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, criminal sodomy and criminal threat.
BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- A Baxter Springs council member is behind bars accused of child abuse. Authorities arrested Stan Pickering, 79, today. He's being held on allegations of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, criminal sodomy and criminal threat. Formal charges are pending. Pickering represents ward one on the council.

He also serves as school crossing guard for Lincoln Elementary School in the Baxter Springs School District. School administrators say law enforcement confirmed to them none of the alleged charges took place during the school day or on school property. Pickering is no longer employed by the school district.
