JOPLIN, MO.--- The Alliance of Southwest Missouri held a Safe Kids event on the parking lot of Gryphon Building today. Kids and their parents entered a smoke trailer, and learned how to escape from a burning house. Kids also had a chance to drive peddle carts with drunk driving simulator goggles. Organizers say these are important lessons to learn, but they also want to make them memorable.
"Kids will learn a lot if they're having fun. If they don't have fun, they're not going to learn. Got to make it fun and educational at the same time, and that's what we try to do," said Kevin Theilen, Safe Kids Coordinator.
Kids also received a free "Arrive Alive" t-shirt if they properly buckled up.
