JOPLIN, MO.--- Students in Southwest Missouri learn about an organization helping people in third world countries. A field recruiter with the Peace Corp held an informational session for Missouri Southern students today. He spoke about what the organization is and the requirements to get involved. The federally funded organization was founded by President Kennedy with the idea of promoting peace through service. Representative says the experience the volunteers bring home benefits people here in the U.S.
"To gain more understanding about other cultures, and that in itself can benefit promoting a more peaceful world. One on one between our peace corp volunteers and the families and friends they serve overseas," said Joe Zucchini, Peace Corp Field Based Recruiter.
Zucchini says the Peace Corp isn't just for young people and they have volunteers in their 80's. Currently, the organization serves 65 countries around the world.
