JOPLIN, MO.--- Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says a three-year-old girl was shot at a home in the Bykota Mobile Home Park. Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, a Newton County ambulance responded to the residence where it was reported a child had fallen and hit her head. Once paramedics arrived, they determined the child had in fact had a gun shot wound.
The mother says the three-year-old and a six-year-old were playing in the house while she was in another room. The mother says she heard a loud noise and went into the room where she saw blood on the edge of the dresser. Sheriff Copeland says the six-year-old is currently with the Department of Family Services.
