JOPLIN, MO.--- Construction is underway to add a healing garden and overlook in Cunningham Park. A team from Drury University is working on a butterfly garden, water feature, a pavilion and benches on the northeast corner of the park. Planning for the project started more than a year - but students hope to carry out most of the work in just a week. They're asking for community volunteers to sign up to take part in the final day of construction on Saturday.
"We can have everything from contractors to folks who just want to pick up a rake and rake up rocks for us, so we can prepare to put sod down and plant and things like that. You don't have to have specific skills," said Traci Sooter, Drury Design Build Program Director.
Work will continue through the week but volunteers can sign up to help from eight to five on Saturday. For more information, contact Drury at 417-873-7809.
