A four state trucking company confirms a small number of layoffs. Conway Trucking President Herb Schmidt has confirmed 30 employees will be losing their jobs. This amounts to only 1% of the total workforce of almost 4,000 people. No drivers will be affected.

The layoffs will mostly affect recruiters because of an excess in the number of drivers they have. Schmidt says they have 118 drivers currently waiting for work.

Conway will also be phasing out some of their oldest equipment by selling 196 trucks. The total fleet is almost 3,000.

Schmidt says they are anticipating a challenging fourth and first quarter and are taking a proactive approach. He says they remain optimistic for the future.
