CHETOPA, KS.--- This morning, Chetopa received a new city hall building. Labette Bank donated the new building which is located at 618 north 11th Street in Chetopa. The bank had been looking for a business to move into the property. However, once they were aware of the current city hall's deteriorating condition, the bank decided to provide Chetopa with a solution to their problem. Mayor Wood says this building is heaven sent. The current city hall building has a lot of mold related problems and other issues beyond repair.
"Our funds are down, we've just spent everything from trying to upgrade our infrastructure, and we have no money in reserve," said Ron Wood, Mayor of Chetopa.
"We were very pleased to be able to work out with the city the opportunity for us to donate this for their city hall, their police department and their maintenance buildings," said Bill Wyckoff, President of Labette Bank.
The mayor expects for city hall to be moved into the new building by next month.
