CARTHAGE, MO.--- Visitors to Carthage will be greeted with a new welcome sign. Members with the city of Carthage and Vision Carthage unveiled the new sign today. It is located at the corner of Oak and Garrison on Historic Route 66. The project cost $12,000 and was paid for by the city. The giant maple leaf was created by Carthage Artist Rachel Wilson who says it's an honor to work on a project that so many people will see.
"It's really exciting. I've got four children that go to school right now. The oldest is 12, and they're going to grow up around here and they'll say 'hey, mom made that," said Rachel Wilson, Artist.
Landscaping will continue to be added to the sign in time for the large number of visitors for the annual Maple Leaf Festival.
