Carthage Service Club Little Free Library

CARTHAGE, MO.--- A group of students encourage literacy in their school. 16 kids from Carthage Middle School created the Carthage Service Club. The group put together what looks like a bird house, but it's actually a temporary home for books. It's called the "Little Free Library." It is based on a give and take system, anyone who passes by can grab a book if they replace it with another one. Organizers say this is a good way to get kids reading.

"The Little Free Library is designed to be a give and take so kids can get books freely. They don't have to have parental permission or be taken somewhere specific. So, it's an easy way to engage kids in reading," said Heather Woodall, Carthage Middle School Teacher.

Teachers say they've started off with one book and hope to get up to 20 in the Little Free Library.
